Metal laser cutting, plasma cutting, flame welding cutting, and metal welding processes are widely used in various fields. For example, during laser cutting, when it melts metal at high speed, a large amount of dust will be generated. The dust contains common metals such as iron, copper, zinc, nickel, manganese, aluminum, tin, cadmium, lead and titanium. Most of these can irritate your eyes, nose and throat. Others such as cadmium are known carcinogens. Some, like lead and manganese, can damage your nerves and brain. Components of other metal fumes are also extremely damaging to the kidneys. These fumes condense and suspend at a height of 2 meters above the ground, which is just within the range of human breathing zone. Long-term inhalation will cause fibrous lesions in lung tissue, which is called welder's pneumoconiosis.


The fully open laser cutting equipment utilizes the principle of range hood and uses the upper suction hood to collect smoke and dust


Fully enclosed dust removal is currently an ideal state for laser cutting and even the entire dust control industry. Reasonable air supply and air intake design allows a smooth airflow to be formed in a closed environment to remove 100% dust.

1. Smoke analysis of laser cutting machine:

①The smoke generated by laser cutting is more than 0.5 microns, and the concentration of smoke generated during cutting is high.

②The temperature of the smoke and dust can reach 80-150°C (near the cutting point), with sparks and high concentration.

③Smoke and dust are small and light, easy to drift around and move irregularly.

2. Equipment selection design:

①The filter element of the dust collector adopts a special filter element for dry smoke, the filtration accuracy is 99.7% above 0.5μm, and the filtration wind speed is designed to be 1.3m/min.

②The air inlet of the dust collector needs to be equipped with a pre-processor, which is mainly used to eliminate sparks generated during laser cutting and prevent fires.

③The laser cutting table adopts a fully enclosed type to maintain negative pressure at the inlet to prevent smoke and dust from overflowing.

3. Design example calculation

Dimensions of working chamber of laser cutting equipment: 4.6*2.7*2.7m

When the laser cutting equipment is fully enclosed, the size of the feed port is 2.7*1.3m

Import area F=2.7*1.3=3.51㎡

Ensure that the cross-sectional wind speed when the laser cutting smoke is sucked away is 0.35m/s,

The required air volume is Q=0.35*3.51*3600=4400m³/h, you can choose our company’s CDX-LT-45 dust collector (air volume 4500-5800m³/h, full pressure 2600pa)

4. Dust removal pipeline design

According to the air volume of 4800m³/h, the wind speed at which the smoke and dust in the pipe can be transported is greater than 15m/s, and the pipe with a diameter of 300mm is selected.
